In Pabradė, the building of the Experimental Testing Laboratory of Hydrogen as Fuel or a Fuel Additive, Ecologic Fuel Additives and Fuel Systems. It is a unique project that has no analogues in the world.
“The building in Pabradė was erected in a very short period of time – the foundation for the laboratory was laid in November last year and in June we plan to start scientific research activities “, – sais Mr. Vidas Korsakas, the director of “SG dujos Auto“.
The aim of the unique project is to test the possibilities of the using of hydrogen in fuel production in Lithuania, to develop environment friendly fuel production technologies and the advanced newest methods of the application of hydrogen as fuel or a fuel additive together with natural gas.
In the new building, the scientific research laboratory will be established. In this laboratory, Lithuania scientists will develop joint techniques, how to use the new type of fuel – hydromethane – in different transport vehicles.
Practical tests will be performed in the laboratory – the engines of transport vehicles of various types will be tested and the most appropriate ration of natural gas and hydrogen will be presented to them in consideration of the technical qualities of each engine.
The project is performed by the Company “SG dujos Auto“ together with the partners from Lithuanian Energy Institute and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University.
Economy is Important
“For us it is important that the effect would be not only environmental, but also economic. Earlier performed practical experiments demonstrated that, having mixed hydrogen and natural gas, the economy of fuel was possible. Furthermore, the emissions of CO2 can be reduced up to 50 percent“, – speaks V. Korsakas.
In the world, it is usual to use natural gas in public transport, as well as in the transport vehicles of communal economy and special purpose enterprises, taxi cars. “In the event of the successful creation of hydromethane, the developed network of its production and filing stations, such fuel could be used also in other types of transport, for example in inter-city buses or cars “, – sais V. Korsakas.
Huge Potential of Use
The project promoters expect that technologies developed and tested in Lithuania will be demanded also in foreign countries developing their natural gas for cars infrastructures.
Having created the experimental modules of hydromethane production, it is intended to start also the industrial production of hydromethane. Moreover, the promoters of the project hope that the new technology would also gain the interest of foreign countries concerned in environmental cleanliness.
“The essential target of our project is to contribute to the creation of innovative technologies as well as their application in practical activities. Furthermore, we will give an opportunity to the appearance of new workplaces to highly qualified specialists. Thus we will promote also the export of modern technology services and products abroad “, – sais V. Korsakas.
Having implemented the project, the only laboratory of such nature of the applied testing of hydromethane and fuel systems in Lithuania and neighbouring countries will be established, where tests will be performed using the most modern equipment pursuing to create new mixtures using hydrogen in them, the prototypes of the production of new fuel types and transport fuel systems.
The total value of the project is 7.6 million Litas, 5.3 million Litas of them is the support received from the European Union structural funds.
